Challenge
InterfaceFLOR is the leading global manufacturer of modular flooring products, and pioneers in the area of corporate sustainability. Within the carpet manufacturing industry they lead the way in eliminating waste, but they appreciate that unless laws exist to force others to follow suit, the problem of waste will remain.
This has led them to wage a War on Waste, which is their campaign to push for the legislative change that will force other manufacturers to fundamentally change how they operate.
In addition to presenting the War on Waste story in a way that’s easy to understand, we were challenged with encouraging and facilitating users to show their support by signing up or spreading word of the campaign online.
Solution
The project threw up a number of considerations. As with every piece of work that we undertake for InterfaceFLOR, it had to be designed, written and built with multiple language translations in mind. Also, given the complex nature of the subject matter, it was important that we presented the key points in an engaging way without overloading the user with detail.
We developed a War on Waste microsite to house the different elements of the campaign, at the centre of which is an illustrated Flash story that perfectly encapsulates the campaign in a simple, easy to digest and engaging format.
Elsewhere on the microsite are a number of features that encourage users to support the campaign. These include a Pledge your support sign up page and various Spread the word features, including forward to a friend functionality and social bookmarking tools.
Results
Although in its early stages, the campaign has attracted a lot of attention across the carpet manufacturing industry, and beyond.
It’s anticipated that over time, as support grows, InterfaceFLOR will take their campaign to the European Parliament in Brussels and push for industry-wide legislative change.
