The Ashes Festival

Web design & build

As part of the 2009 npower Ashes Test Series, the 4th test between England and Australia was played at Headingley Carnegie Stadium in Leeds.

And with the eyes of the sporting world on the city of Leeds, working in conjunction with sports and leisure marketing agency, Banana Kick, we developed a website to showcase the many events and activities running in the Yorkshire region as part of ‘The Ashes Festival in Leeds’.

During the festival, people of all ages were able to enjoy a wide range of activities including children’s cricket sessions, lectures, dinners, competitions, cricket parties and celebrity appearances.

And our challenge was to create a site which would act as the central point for information and also build on the buzz of excitement around the festival.

The microsite we designed and developed incorporated the vibrant and striking ‘Ashes Festival in Leeds’ identity and branding and perfectly encapsulated the excitement generated by the arrival of one of the truly great sporting events.

Photography was also carefully chosen to reflect the nature of the festival and offer users an insight into the type of activities taking place.

The festival was run in conjunction with a number of partner organisations – including Marketing Leeds, Welcome to Yorkshire, npower, Yorkshire County Cricket Club and Leeds Metropolitan University – and the site featured a partners area highlighting their involvement.
