Jul 8 – AWA help ASDA give young people a Sporting Chance

The kids of today don’t know they’re born. When I was a lad summer holidays were all about watching ’Why Don’t You?’ and ’Kickstart’ on TV while the rain poured down outside. Any break in the clouds meant a mad dash into the street to have some fun before the heavens opened again.

But thanks to a new website we’ve designed and developed for the ASDA Sporting Chance initiative, young people can now spend the summer break taking their first steps towards sporting greatness, absolutely free of charge.

ASDA Sporting Chance is a community sports scheme which offers free sport sessions to young people across the UK. To take advantage of the sessions on offer ASDA customers can pick up free vouchers from their local store and redeem these when they book activities.

Visitors to the new ASDA Sporting Chance website can search its constantly updated database of over 100,000 sessions being offered by almost 300 providers throughout the UK.

The scheme, which is running all summer long, encourages young people to take part in an activity which they enjoy, or to try something new for free. A wide range of sports are on offer and each session is run by qualified coaches.

The website also contains details of the partners that ASDA is working with on the scheme, as well as highlighting the support they are offering promising young UK athletes. Working with the sports charity, Sports Aid, each ASDA store has ’adopted’ two promising athletes who will receive grants towards their sporting development and also benefit from in–store fundraising activity.

Lara Wantenaar, Project Manager for ASDA in the Community, is delighted with the finished site and AWA’s involvement on the project: “We are very proud of the ASDA Sporting Chance initiative as it further enhances our commitment to our local communities and the education of an active lifestyle for all young people.

AWA has been fantastically supportive throughout the Sporting Chance website project — from initial design discussions to implementation and beyond — and we found the whole team to be friendly, approachable and knowledgeable.

The Sporting Chance site — which retains key branding elements from ASDA.com, whilst clearly positioning Sporting Chance as a stand–alone project — has been extremely well received by users.”
